Asking the 6th graders at MLK in Kalamazoo, MI . Should Space Exploration continue? Give reasons to support your answer. I tried my best not to influence the students in any way. I believe that I succeeded, by reading a great deal of reasons to continue or not continue. A quick statistic out of the 38 papers that have been turned in so far, 2 students said NO, 1 student thinks we should wait a while, and 35 believe that we should continue on. The passages below have been typed up duplicating hand written papers from my 6th graders. This was an assignment that was used to get spontaneous reactions so you will notice grammatical errors. I must say that I was extremely impressed with the reasons given, some were inventive but are still valid. Feel free to read on and enjoy
Yes, I think space exploration should continue because only two out of 113 missions have failed. Space exploration is a good thing for many people. Space exploration gives us more knowledge. More knowledge means a lot to us. Another reason it should continue is because if we stop a lot of people are out of jobs and we cant then discover more things see how the world is doing and other country will get ahead. That is why it should continue
I think we should continue to travel in space because we need more info on what is out there. If we dont know what is out there we will not grow to know more. Only one shuttle died and being a astronaut means they already knew what could of happened. We also shold because what if the earth was so polluted that no one could live we need to be in space.
My answer to should space exploration continue to do that is no. Because they can just send a camera into space instead of people. My three reasons why they shouldnt is because people have a close chance of losing their lives. Its really not that safe. Also it would be safer if they just send a camera up to space. That is all I think about this.
I think we should continue our space exploration because eventually well run out of oxygen because of all the trees were cutting down and if we dont have any trees we dont have any oxygen. I also think that if were running out of oxygen we could go to a different planet that was found thats got oxygen and food and water. Another fast is that it will probably be fun if we dont have any more accidents.
Yes, I think space exploration should continue. I think this because if 2 explorations have been unsuccessful doesnt mean they didnt learn anything. Also, we have progressed in technology because of space flights. It would be a waste of time for all the people who have used this as a source of income and to people who have spent a lot of time working on space exploration.
I think that space exploration should continue. There have been There have been approximately 120 missions to space. Out of all those 2 were considered failures. Columbia and Challengers 10th mission. This crash will also help space travel in the future because they can find what happened and make sure it doesnt happen again. If we stop exploring space, then well never find other life forms in the universe.
Yes, space exploration should continue. I think it should because they only messed up twice. Also if they find all the pieces they can build it again and find out what went wrong. I think they wont do it again.
Yes, I think space exploration should continue because it gives you lots of opportunity to explore space to know if living life exists or if there are more planets in our solar system. Just because 2 explorations have been unsuccessful does not mean that they did not learn anything. Also it does not mean that it will happen again even though we will never know.
Yes, the space explorations should continue. It was just 1 of the non successful flights, we have had many successful trips too... We still have more to learn about space and more and more questions are popping up If they feel it is unsafe they can fix the space ship make things more safe so there will be more missions.
I think space exploration should continue. One reason is because 98% of all U.S. missions were successful. That is pretty good. Also space exploration has taught us many things how to survive in space. Also space exploration has allowed us to build satellites which help us learn about earth and weather patterns. With space exploration we have managed to get humans onto a place besides earth, the moon. Without space exploration we would be nothing.
I think space exploration should continue because one day we might find another planet that human beings could survive or something that could possibly be useful here on earth. Also we might actually find out if there are aliens out there somewhere.
Yes, it should be continued. When Challenger exploded, did we give up? No, we found the pieces, put Challenger back together, found the problem, and fixed all the shuttles so missions would be safer. Another reason is that 98% of all shuttle missions have been successful. Another reason is that if we give up now the the citizens of the U.S.A. will want to continue, so why put off the inevitable conclusion.
I think that space exploration should continue. 1 reason is because everytime something goes wrong something better can come from it meaning each time it becomes safer. Another reason is we are able to find cures for some diseases on earth which may benefit us. A final reason is we can learn more about space and everything around us.
I believe that the missions should continue because 1 the experiments they do up there helps our lives down here. 2 because I enjoy successful missions and weve only had 2 bad ones. 3 the people love what they do.
No, I think space exploration should discontinue for a little while. They should check all the space shuttles and see that they are all properly functioning correctly. They should come up with some new safety procedures and safer shuttles. Wait a little while and see that the astronauts are ready and well prepared.
